Visit our flagship Beijing store in Europlaza, featuring our own-make Tibetan rugs. See our Beijing page for more details. Visit our new Tibetan rug store in Lhasa.

Torana Tibetan rugs are made from pure Tibetan highland wool at our own workshop in Lhasa, with unique designs, both traditional and contemporary. Our carpets are sold in our own carpet stores, as well as directly to overseas customers.

We also stock some unique items you will find nowhere else, including Tibetan Wangden rugs, antique Chinese carpets, antique Tibetan rugs, Tibetan cashmere, Tibetan jewelry and artisan textiles from the Lhasa Villages handicrafts center. We regularly hold special exhibitions and support artisan and craft projects, particularly in Tibet.

Custom rugs are a specialty: all aspects of our carpets can be customized to suit your home, including size, color and design. We provide a personal service including design proposals and sketches. We study tradtional Tibetan dyeing and weaving skills and put them to use making area rugs and collector's items that meet the most exacting standards of contemporary interiors and design (photo: Ming Lotus rug by Chris Buckley).

Note on our Beijing Store: some customers may remember our Kempinski hotel Tibetan carpet store, contrary to some guidebook listings we are no longer at this location , our store is in Europlaza at Shunyi, details on this page.

Clean, Green and Safe

Torana Tibetan carpets are free from toxic dyes and volatile organics (VOCs)

Torana Tibetan rugs are free from toxic dyes and volatile organics (VOCs). This is important because many machine-made furnishings and poor quality handmade rugs can bring unnecessary and unwanted chemicals into your home. Read more about this, and how our handmade carpets are different from the rest.

Sustainable production at a reasonable price

Torana handmade rugs are affordable because we own our own workshop and source directly from it. Prices at our stores and on our website are typically less than half of what you would pay for comparable rugs in stores in Europe and America. Since we began making rugs at our own dedicated workshop in Lhasa we have passed on the savings to our customers: a genuine Torana Tibetan rug now costs less than it did when we began selling rugs in 1998.

Our Lhasa production site supports not only our weavers but also all those associated with rug production, including nomad herders in the Tibetan highlands, wool spinners... and entire community in fact. Delivering an authentic rug made from natural materials, at a reasonable price is part of our drive to ensure our business makes a contribution to Nam village where our workshop is located, a contribution that is both sustainable and environmentally benign.
