Antique silk textiles at Torana Galleries

antique chinese silk velvet with dragon design

Outstanding silk textiles were produced at the Chinese Imperial workshops throughout the Ming and Qing dynasties. From the thirteenth century onwards workshops in the Suzhou area of China produced outstanding silk brocades for the use of the Imperial Court in Beijing. Silk is fragile and was rarely preserved in mainland China, but fortunately many items were acquired by Tibetan temples. On our regular visits to Tibet we have been able to track down fine pieces of antique Chinese silk, including fragments and some complete garments.

Please email us for inquiries about these items.
