estimated age 17th century
comments A silk fragment with two phoenix, late Ming/early Qing (17th century). The phoenix designs on this large textile panel are characteristic of designs from the Wanli reign of the Ming dynasty, though they continued to be used in the early part of the Qing dynasty (17th century). Similar designs can be seen on porcelain and lacquer work, though rarely rendered with such verve, precision and color as in this example. Silk of this artistry and quality is rare indeed.

This panel is currently not framed or mounted, having arrived recently from a buying trip. The most appropriate presentation would be to mount on acid-free board with a matte cut to the same shape as the panel, and then to frame behind glass.
