The Xinjiang (Sinkiang) region is in the far north-west of China, along the Silk Road route. Rugs were made by nomadic groups such as the Kirgiz (Khirgiz or Kyrgyz) people and also in the oasis towns Kashgar and Khotan.
We have recently added several beautiful pomegranite carpets from Khotan and some old Kirgiz carpets at our Beijing stores (Kempinski and Shunyi). One of our pomegranite carpets is featured in the November 2007 issue of Elle Decoration (Hong Kong edition).The rugs shown below are a selection - there are more to see in our stores.
