A 19th century Kirgiz rug in good condition for its age with some wear but with pile remaining all over. Its selvedges are also in good condition with a few old repairs. Colors are soft and seem to be natural dyes, suggesting that the rug is early in date, likely pre-1880s. An earlier date than most Kirgiz rugs we see is also supported by the design, which is a Turkomen-influenced Boteh without any of the Chinese influence we sometimes see in early 20th century Kirgiz pieces. |
