This carpet was woven in the far Western part of Xinjiang around 1950. It is unusual in that it shows very little trace of Chinese design influence, the diamonds and floral motifs being more similar to north Indian carpets than to typical designs from the Silk Road.
The carpet is in excellent condition with a long soft pile and virtually no wear. The pile is partly wool and partly silk.
