This is very representative of the better rugs produced by Khotan workshops during the middle part of the 20th century, before production quality declined significantly from the 1960s onwards (in part due to the decline of local Khotan wool production). The design is a blend of Caucasian influenced motifs assembled according to local Khotan taste, using fine soft Khotan wool. Condition is good with good pile over most of the rug, but with some areas of low pile along the top left edge in the picture
