A good example of a mid-to-late 19thC carpet, with good color and minor wear. The design shows clearly the borrowing of motifs from contemporaneous Chinese weaving, combined with a Tibetan sense of color and some particularly Tibetan motifs (endless knot designs). The floral medallions at the center are typical of carpets from this period. They are surrounded by multiple borders including pearl and coin designs, with a floral border at the edge. Wool warp and weft, natural dyes |
